Laura C. McPherson - is a freelance Scenic Designer, # 4350 member of United Scenic Artists #829 IATSE. She shares a 4650 sq. ft. shop with her brother, Robert McPherson, a Sculptor, in Providence Rhode Island. Come visit the design studio, sculpture studio, 24’ x 52’ paint deck and drop stock.

Having designed hundreds of shows, some of her theatrical design clients include: Opera New England, American Stage Festival, Boston Academy of Music & The Opera Unlimited Festival, The Huntington Theater Co., Studio 210, Boston University’s Opera Institute Mainstage, New Repertory Theater Company, Jewish Theater New England, The Foxboro Orpheum Theater & Bay Colony Productions, Gloucester Stage Company, Foothills Theater Company, The Bostonian Opera Ensemble, Fiddlehead Theater Company, Kaleidoscope Theater Company, Opera Providence, Star Players, Third Stone Productions & Earth’s Alive Festival (San Francisco, Ca.) 

Laura won a 2001 Elliot Norton Award for outstanding Scenic Design - “Not About Nightingales” with Boston Theatre Works.

And has been a Puppeteer / maker for The Edinburgh Puppet Co., Bread & Puppet Th. Co., and Festival Ballet Rhode Island.


Laura's MFA in Scenic Design from Boston University was under Don Beaman & John Fallabella, and she has a BFA in Scenic Design from The North Carolina School of the Arts under Donato Moreno & John Lee Beatty. She has assisted many Broadway designers over the years. 
She’s been part time faculty at Emerson College with classes including Drafting I and II, Scenic Painting, Mask-making, mentoring student designers & scenic charges, and designing shows for the Cutler Majestic Theater; also she’s been a part time Associate Professor at Bridgewater State College with classes including Theater Appreciation, Play Production, Stagecraft, Seminar in Contemporary Theater, Scenic Design, designing & charging shows, and mentoring students. She’s a member of The Massachusetts Teachers Association. She’s also been a Visiting Lecturer/ Scenic Designer /Scenic Artist for Boston University, The Boston Conservatory, The Franklin School for the Performing Arts, Harvard’s Radcliffe College, Massasoit Community College, The Walnut Hill School, Qualters Middle School, Sharon High, The American Repertory Theater Institute, and Cobalt Scenic Studios.
